Question 1

What makes Freeform Lighting different?

Accepted Answer

Our work pairs flexible illuminated braided cord with thoughtfully designed metalwork to create sculptural architectural lighting. From individual pendants to large-scale installations, the cord’s integrated light and flexibility are central to each composition. Every fixture is designed and hand-assembled in the USA.

Question 2

Are your fixtures made to order?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every Freeform fixture is made to order. Available dimensions, finishes, suspension options, and other details vary by collection, allowing you to select the configuration that suits your space.

Question 3

Can you create a custom fixture for my project?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many of our collections offer flexibility in scale, configuration, and installation, while others are designed for fully custom compositions. Our team is happy to review your ideas, available space, and technical requirements. More involved custom work may require a separately quoted Design Development Fee.

Question 4

How do I know which collection is right for my project?

Accepted Answer

Each collection offers a different approach to illuminated braided cord. Aria features freely suspended compositions; Atlas introduces a structured linear frame; Eden pairs the cord with architectural metalwork; and Selene brings it to the wall. Explore our Collections or contact our team for help finding the right fit for your project.

Question 5

Can homeowners purchase directly from Freeform?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We work directly with homeowners, interior designers, architects, lighting designers, and commercial project teams. A professional trade account is not required to inquire about or purchase our lighting.

Question 6

Do you offer a trade program?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our Trade and Distributor Partner programs support design professionals and lighting distributors with preferred pricing and dedicated project support. Visit our Trade page for program details and to apply.

Question 7

What materials are used in your fixtures?

Accepted Answer

Our fixtures combine illuminated braided cord with brass and aluminum components, depending on the collection and configuration. The metalwork is finished by hand, and each fixture is hand-assembled in the USA. Our team is happy to provide material details for the fixture you are considering.

Question 8

What is illuminated braided cord?

Accepted Answer

Our signature material is a flexible braided cord with integrated 24V LED lighting. It emits a continuous, even glow with 95+ CRI and is fully dimmable with compatible drivers and controls. The cord can be styled and re-styled to change the look of your fixture.

Question 9

What finishes and color temperatures are available?

Accepted Answer

We offer six hand-applied metal finishes and five standard color temperatures, from 2400K to 4200K. Explore the options on each collection page, or visit our Materials page for a closer look.

Question 10

Can I see physical materials before placing an order?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our Materials Sample Kit includes all six metal finish samples and a USB-powered illuminated braided cord sample. The standard kit is $250, credited toward a future fixture order. Visit our Materials page for details and to request a kit.

Question 11

Can I evaluate color temperature before finalizing my specification?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Production-grade color-temperature samples are available as temporary loans so you can evaluate the illuminated material in your project’s lighting conditions before making a final selection. Samples must be returned after evaluation.

Question 12

What is an LED driver, and why is it needed?

Accepted Answer

An LED driver is the power supply that converts a building’s electrical power into the low-voltage power used by the LEDs in your fixture. It provides the correct power for the LEDs to operate and, when appropriately specified, works with your dimmer or control system to adjust the light level.

Question 13

What voltage do your fixtures require?

Accepted Answer

Freeform fixtures operate on 24VDC (24 volts direct current) and require an appropriately specified LED driver. The fixture must not be connected directly to building line voltage. Our team is happy to help confirm the driver required for your fixture, building power supply, and intended control system.

Question 14

Where is the LED driver installed?

Accepted Answer

Our fixtures use separate LED drivers rather than drivers built into the fixture. Placement depends on the driver selected and the installation requirements. Our team can work with your electrical professional during specification to coordinate the driver location and any mounting or wiring requirements.

Question 15

Are Freeform fixtures dimmable?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our fixtures are fully dimmable with appropriately specified drivers and compatible control systems. Requirements vary by fixture and installation. Our team is happy to confirm compatibility between drivers, dimmers, and control systems and answer questions during specification.

Question 16

Do you provide technical specifications and shop drawings?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We are happy to provide product specifications, installation details, electrical requirements, and other technical documentation. For custom compositions and fixtures, we can also prepare project-specific shop drawings and work with you and your team to coordinate the details. Shop drawings require your formal approval before production begins.

Question 17

Can your fixtures be installed in damp or wet locations?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our fixtures are rated for dry, damp, and wet locations. Please let us know during specification if your fixture will be installed in a damp or wet environment so we can apply additional protective lacquer to help preserve the metal finish. Our team is happy to review any installation-specific considerations before production begins.

Question 18

How do I request a quote?

Accepted Answer

You can request a quote directly from any collection page by selecting your preferred configuration and sharing a few details about your project. For fully custom work or help with your selection, please contact our team.

Question 19

What information do I need to request pricing?

Accepted Answer

Please share as much information as you have available. Approximate dimensions, configuration, finish, color temperature, mounting requirements, and your project timeline are all helpful. Your design does not need to be finalized before reaching out; our team can help work through any remaining details.

Question 20

How long does production take?

Accepted Answer

Our standard production timeline is 8–10 weeks. Lead times may vary for custom designs or larger orders. Our team is happy to review your project and confirm the anticipated timeline.

Question 21

Can you accommodate expedited projects?

Accepted Answer

We are always happy to review time-sensitive projects. Courtesy and paid expedited production options may be available, depending on production capacity, material availability, and the complexity of the fixture. Please contact our team with your project timeline so we can confirm availability and any additional costs.

Question 22

How long are quotes valid?

Accepted Answer

Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date issued, and all pricing is in USD. After 30 days, our team is happy to review your quote and confirm current pricing and production lead times.

A quote does not reserve production capacity. Your order is confirmed once the required payment has been received.

Question 23

What are Freeform Lighting’s payment terms?

Accepted Answer

Orders of $5,000 USD or less require payment in full to begin production. Orders over $5,000 USD require a 50% deposit to begin production, with the remaining 50% due at least two weeks before the estimated ship date.

For orders requiring a deposit, we issue separate deposit and balance invoices. Our team is happy to answer any questions about payment or your production timeline.

Question 24

Can I make changes or cancel an order?

Accepted Answer

Orders may be canceled for a full refund within 24 hours of initial payment, provided production has not begun. After 24 hours, approved cancellations are subject to a fee equal to 50% of the product subtotal.

Changes to quantities, specifications, finishes, or dimensions may affect pricing and lead times. Please contact us as soon as possible if your project requirements change.

Question 25

Where do you ship?

Accepted Answer

We ship worldwide from our studio in New York. Complimentary UPS shipping with signature required is included unless otherwise noted on your quote. Freight, special handling, expedited service, white-glove delivery, and international duties, taxes, and customs or brokerage fees are not included unless specifically listed on your quote.

For international projects, our team will review your project requirements, electrical compatibility, applicable certifications, and shipping logistics to confirm availability.

Question 26

Is installation included?

Accepted Answer

Installation by our team is not included, but we provide complete installation resources to help a qualified electrical professional install your fixture. Our team is always happy to work directly with your installer to provide technical information and answer questions by email, text, or a live video meeting.

Question 27

What should I do if my fixture arrives damaged or requires service?

Accepted Answer

Please contact us promptly at support@freeformlighting.com with your order details and a description of the issue. For shipping damage, photos of the packaging and fixture are especially helpful. Our team will review the issue with you and guide you through the next steps based on your order and warranty terms.
